Motorola Signature 27 Brings GrapheneOS Support to a $1,600 Flagship
Motorola's Signature 27 is a $1,600 flagship with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, 12GB RAM, and a 7000mAh battery, and it is the first Motorola flagship to support GrapheneOS.
Motorola has announced the Signature 27, a flagship smartphone priced at $1,600 and the first in the company’s lineup to support GrapheneOS, a security-hardened Android distribution. The device pairs Qualcomm’s current top-tier mobile platform with a high-refresh AMOLED display, a large battery, and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.
Hardware and display
The Signature 27 is built around the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, which Qualcomm positions as its most powerful mobile chip currently available. Memory is limited to a single 12GB configuration; there is no 16GB option. Motorola attributes this to the current memory market, where supply constraints and rising prices have made higher capacities more expensive. Storage is fixed at 512GB using UFS 4.1, which offers faster read and write speeds than previous UFS standards.
The display is a 6.8-inch Extreme AMOLED Duo panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Its rated peak brightness reaches 12,000 nits, a figure that matters primarily for HDR highlights and outdoor legibility in bright light. The battery has a capacity of 7000 mAh, which is larger than many flagship devices. Wired charging is specified at 90W, and wireless charging is supported at 15W using the Qi standard. Motorola has not disclosed charging times in the announcement.
GrapheneOS compatibility
GrapheneOS is a hardened version of Android focused on security and privacy. It typically runs on a curated list of devices where hardware and firmware meet the project’s security requirements. By supporting GrapheneOS on the Signature 27, Motorola is bringing that compatibility to its flagship tier for the first time. The announcement does not specify whether GrapheneOS is preinstalled or if users must flash it themselves, but official support signals that the device has passed compatibility checks and can be used with the distribution without major hardware compromises.
For users who want a privacy-focused Android build, the Signature 27 offers a rare combination of current-generation flagship performance and official GrapheneOS support. Most GrapheneOS-compatible devices have historically been Google Pixel phones, so a Motorola flagship entering that list expands the hardware options beyond Google’s lineup. That said, the material does not detail which GrapheneOS features are enabled or any hardware-backed security modules specific to the Signature 27.
Price and memory trade-off
At $1,600, the Signature 27 sits in the ultra-premium price segment. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, 120Hz AMOLED display, 512GB UFS 4.1 storage, and 7000 mAh battery justify a high-end label. The single 12GB memory option, however, is likely to be a point of discussion. Many devices in this price bracket offer 16GB or more, but Motorola has explicitly linked the lack of a 16GB model to current memory supply tightness and elevated prices. Whether 12GB is sufficient depends on workload; for typical Android multitasking it is adequate, but power users may expect more headroom at this price.
The Signature 27 does not yet have a stated release date or regional availability in the announcement. Its appeal will depend on how the GrapheneOS support is implemented and whether users see the security-focused OS as worth the premium over conventional flagship phones.
